Blue Eye Samurai will return to Netflix for its second season on January 19, 2027, more than three years after the first season debuted in 2023. The streaming service announced in August that the series would also get a third and final season, planned for 2028.
Maya Erskine reprises her role as Mizu. New cast members for Season 2 include Jonathan Pryce, Joel Kim Booster and Sherry Cola.
The season’s story takes Mizu to London, where her violent quest brings new allies and old enemies, as well as a confrontation with her own demons. In Japan, Akemi and Taigen navigate Edo Castle under a new Shogun, while Ringo looks for a new purpose.
Created by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, the animated series follows Mizu, a mixed-race Japanese warrior seeking revenge on four white men, including her father, who stayed in Japan illegally after the Tokugawa shogunate closed the country’s borders. Noizumi and Green are the show’s creators, writers and executive producers, with Blue Spirit serving as its animation studio.
The first season won four Creative Arts Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Animated Program, and earned six Annie Awards from six nominations.
