Dafne Keen, now 21, has opened up about her early experiences in Hollywood, revealing on the "Inside of You" podcast that she was offered Cocaine at industry parties when she was just a young teenager. The actress, who achieved her breakthrough role as Laura/X-23 opposite Hugh Jackman in the 2017 film "Logan," shot the movie at age 11, with its theatrical release occurring shortly after her 12th birthday.
Speaking to host Michael Rosenbaum, Keen explained that witnessing substance abuse as a child actor made her disinterested in drugs and alcohol. She noted that she was offered cocaine at wrap parties while she was only 11, 12, or 13 years old. "I don't think I've ever been drunk enough to even have a hangover," Keen stated, describing herself as a control freak regarding her sobriety. She admitted to sometimes lying to peers during her teenage years to avoid pressure, claiming she had already taken something when she was actually completely sober.
Keen emphasized that she continues to avoid substances as an adult, preferring to stay out late for the music, dancing, and social atmosphere while remaining sober. Following her success in "Logan," she secured the lead role in the HBO and BBC One adaptation of "His Dark Materials," which ran for three seasons. Her subsequent television work includes a part in the "Star Wars" series "The Acolyte," and she is set to play Artemis in the third season of "Percy Jackson and the Olympics." Additionally, she reprised her role as X-23 in the film "Deadpool and Wolverine."
Reflecting on her time filming "Logan," Keen praised Hugh Jackman for providing positive reinforcement and acting as a protective parental figure on set. She recalled that he ensured no one abused her working hours, made sure she was having fun, and shielded her from any behind-the-scenes tensions. Keen described Jackman as the best on-screen dad one could wish for, highlighting his incredible protectiveness during her formative years in the industry.
