FilmLA will continue accepting applications for its Low Impact Permit Pilot Program through April 2027, extending a scheme that offers reduced permit fees for television, film and other productions in Los Angeles. The pilot had been scheduled to end on October 31, 2026.
Eligible filmmakers can apply through FilmLA’s MyFilmLA portal. The pilot charges a $350 application fee, compared with $931 for a standard film permit, and a $156 notification fee per location, down from $232. It also waives a $285 fee for a spot check normally conducted by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Permits cover up to three filming locations over three consecutive days within the city’s jurisdiction, with no more than 30 cast and crew members on set. FilmLA said it issued 422 Low Impact permits during the pilot’s first six months, from April 27 to October 31. According to the organization, the permits saved filmmakers more than $400,000 in combined fees compared with standard pricing.
FilmLA officials said the extension will maintain continuity while the city reviews other permitting options. The pilot is separate from a proposed no-cost micro shoot permit approved by the City Council in October, which is still being considered for finalization.
