Gianmarco Soresi’s stand-up special God Forbid will premiere globally on Netflix on December 3. It is his second full-length special and his first for the streaming service.
Filmed during a sold-out run at Chicago’s Thalia Hall, the special covers Soresi’s hopes and concerns about marriage and fatherhood, his doubts about society’s alternatives to religion, and the complications of taking mental health seriously. Soresi wrote and performs the special, which was directed by Eric Abrams. Soresi, Tovah Silbermann and Matthew Vaughan executive produced it for Rotten Science.
God Forbid follows Soresi’s self-released 2025 special, Thief of Joy. That hour drew more than 1 million YouTube views in its first week and has surpassed 6 million views. Soresi previously appeared in Netflix’s Verified Stand-Up series.
Soresi said he was pleased to release a special he did not have to upload himself after more than a decade in stand-up. He is currently performing on his global The Misery Loves Tour, which spans 30 cities in eight countries and has had a majority of sold-out shows.
