People worldwide spend an average of 51.6 minutes watching YouTube each day, according to aggregated 2026 data cited by Resourcera. The figure is up from less than 40 minutes in 2019, with growth continuing beyond the pandemic-era increase.

The platform’s viewing scale is estimated to exceed 2 billion hours a day in some calculations. That is above the more than 1 billion daily hours YouTube has confirmed in recent years. The source also puts YouTube’s monthly active audience at roughly 2.83 billion users.

Viewing habits are shifting toward televisions as well as phones. Connected TVs, including smart TVs and streaming devices, are described as YouTube’s fastest-growing viewing surface and, in some key markets, its largest by total watch time. In the United States, Nielsen’s Gauge reports have placed YouTube’s share of all television viewing at around 12% to 15% or higher in recent months, ahead of other streaming platforms.

TV sessions tend to last longer than mobile viewing, according to the report, and include Shorts, creator videos, podcasts, sports highlights and live streams. The shift has brought YouTube into closer competition with traditional streaming services for viewers’ prime-time attention.

Time spent on the platform varies by country. The report says users in India and South Korea often watch more than the global average, while some European markets record lower viewing. In the United States, it cites YouTube’s reach among roughly 84% of adults alongside strong connected-TV use.

The report also notes that more than 500 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube each minute, with its algorithm driving a majority of views. The scale of daily viewing and the growth of television use point to YouTube’s expanding role as an entertainment destination.
