Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas began on October 16, 2026, but its new movie “Adopting St. Nick” has already prompted complaints from viewers who suspect some of its graphics were made with artificial intelligence. The concerns surfaced in a discussion on Reddit, where commenters said the visuals distracted them from the film.
The movie follows Maren, played by Amy Groening, a single mother who runs her late father’s hardware store and raises her adopted daughter, Leah, played by Taylor Blake. Leah volunteers as a Christmas Companion at a retirement community, where she meets Kris, played by Randy Apostle, a resident who resembles Santa Claus. Maren also develops a romance with Reid, played by Michael Rady, who works at the community center.
In a post on the HallmarkMovies subreddit, one viewer complained that props looked like “AI slop” and said the graphics were distracting enough to stop watching. Other commenters pointed to signs, posters and notes, with some saying they had also turned off the movie or found the visuals disappointing.
The discussion included viewers who said they had noticed suspected AI in other Hallmark productions as well. The complaints do not confirm that AI was used in making “Adopting St. Nick”; they reflect viewers’ impressions of the film’s graphics.
