Hannah Einbinder celebrated Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan’s Senate race by debuting what she called her “perfect” impression of Haley Stevens. The Hacks star had teased the performance in an Instagram Story on Tuesday night, promising to share it if “our guys (gender neutral)” won.
About 15 hours later, Einbinder posted a clip of herself performing the impression at a bar. “As promised,” she wrote. In the video, she says: “We’re gonna give ’em a little bit of energy, a little bit of pow, a little bit of stick it to ’em, cos that’s the Michigan way.” People sitting with her laughed at the performance. She also reposted a graphic reading, “Mazel tov, Abdul.”
El-Sayed, an epidemiologist, won the race against Mike Rogers, who was endorsed by Stevens after the prominent Michigan Democrat switched to the Republican side. The contest was called at around 2 a.m. ET. El-Sayed’s victory came amid Islamophobic attacks, controversy over his views on Israel and Stevens’ defection. He will become the first Muslim senator in the United States.
Einbinder has also spoken publicly in support of Palestinian rights. In her Emmy acceptance speech last year, she said, “Free Palestine.”
