Jennifer Lawrence urged her Instagram followers to vote on Election Day with a reference to her role as Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games.” She posted a photo of herself making the series’ three-finger salute and wrote: “Midterms [baby]. Don’t forget who burns with us. Go vote.” Her post also included a link to Vote.org, where people can find their nearest polling location.
The quote comes from “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” when Katniss addresses President Snow after a hospital in her home district is bombed. Lawrence did not endorse a candidate or name a politician in her post.
The message comes after Lawrence said in a previous interview with The New York Times that she was reconsidering how she discusses politics publicly. She questioned whether celebrity endorsements affect voting choices and said she wanted to avoid adding to political division or turning audiences away from her work.
Lawrence is set to reprise her role as Katniss in “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.” Speaking about returning to the character on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast last month, she described the experience as emotional and said she reunited with cast members Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson. The film is scheduled to open in theaters on Nov. 20 from Lionsgate.
