Jenny Groom is joining Amazon MGM Studios as head of MGM Alternative, reporting to the studio’s head of nonfiction, Jenn Levy. Groom will oversee franchises including Survivor, Shark Tank and The Voice, as well as MGM Alternative’s format library, and will develop new formats and series for Prime Video and third-party outlets.
Levy announced the appointment in a memo to staff, describing Groom’s experience on both the buying and selling sides of the industry as an asset to the studio’s unscripted plans. Groom is due to start on November 30.
Groom most recently served as executive vice president of unscripted development at BBC Studios, which she joined last year. Her work there included developing Fox’s Nation’s Dumbest and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro.
Before BBC Studios, Groom spent nearly two decades at NBCUniversal, most recently as executive vice president of unscripted programming. Her portfolio included The Traitors, Love Island, America’s Got Talent and American Ninja Warrior, as well as The Voice. She has also consulted for companies including Hello Sunshine and Hartbeat Productions.
