Jeremy Renner and Josh Brolin will lead A Speck in the Sea, a survival thriller directed by Oscar winner Orlando von Einsiedel. 193, a Legendary company, is representing the film for international sales at the American Film Market (AFM). Jeff Pope wrote the screenplay.

The film is based on the 2013 disappearance of Johnny Aldridge, a Montauk lobster fisherman played by Brolin. Aldridge fell from his boat in the Atlantic at night while his friend and fishing partner, Anthony Sosinski, played by Renner, was asleep below deck. After discovering Aldridge was missing, Sosinski launches a multi-state rescue effort, while Aldridge struggles to survive at sea.

Mark Bauch of One Day’s Walk and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback are producing. CAA Media Finance and WME Independent are jointly representing the film’s North American rights.

Von Einsiedel won an Academy Award for directing the short documentary The White Helmets. Pope received an Oscar nomination for adapting Philomena.
