Johnny Depp has not confirmed whether he will reprise Jack Sparrow in “Pirates of the Caribbean 6,” but says he would consider returning if the next film gives the franchise the right ending. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight during the press tour for “Ebenezer,” Depp said his main reason for taking part would be to “send them off on a better note.”
Depp also said he would work with producer Jerry Bruckheimer, citing their friendship and his trust in him. His comments stop short of confirming that he will appear in the next installment.
Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly in 2025 that he had spoken with Depp about another “Pirates” movie. At the time, the producer said Depp might return if he liked the script, adding that the screenplay was still in development and needed to be right before the film could move forward.
The sixth film has been in development for years. Bruckheimer said in 2024 that screenwriter Jeff Nathanson had written a strong third act for the project, while the first two acts still needed work. He also said he would welcome Depp back, describing the actor as the person who created his own interpretation of Jack Sparrow.
Depp starred in five “Pirates of the Caribbean” films released between 2003 and 2017. Together, the movies have earned $4.5 billion worldwide, according to the source report. The actor’s future in the Disney-backed franchise has remained uncertain since his legal disputes and 2022 defamation trial involving his ex-wife Amber Heard.
