Rebecca Miller’s biopic Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses has added Josh Hartnett, Emma Thompson, Sally Hawkins, Danny Huston, Robert Aramayo and Chloe Pirrie to its cast. They join Elle Fanning, who plays children’s author Margaret Wise Brown, and previously announced co-star Julianne Moore.
Set in 1930s New York, the film follows Brown as she develops her approach to writing for children and finds her place among artists and educators. The story also explores her relationships with socialite “Big Bill” Gaston and poet Michael Strange. Hartnett will play Gaston, while Fanning will portray Strange alongside Brown.
Miller wrote and will direct the film, based on Leonard S. Marcus’s biography Margaret Wise Brown: Awakened by the Moon. The filmmaker described Brown as an author who retained a childlike perspective while building a successful career, and said she sees the writer as a modern figure whose creative independence could resonate with young people.
The Veterans is preparing to launch international sales at the American Film Market with a sizzle reel and screenplay, and will handle rights outside the United States. CAA Media Finance is representing U.S. rights. The film is set to begin shooting in May 2027.
Moonsong: A Life In Seven Verses will be produced by Round Films’ Damon Cardasis and Rebecca Miller, with Martin Scorsese serving as executive producer.
