Josh O’Connor has described the speculation linking him to the next James Bond film as an “incredibly bizarre pinch me moment,” saying he feels honored to be considered for the coveted role.

Speaking to the BBC at the opening of the Everyman Theatre’s new education and community center in his hometown of Cheltenham, England, the “Challengers” and “The Crown” actor said it was extraordinary to have his name mentioned in connection with Bond. He added that he had nothing further to say about a possible involvement.

O’Connor is reportedly among a small group of actors taking part in final screen tests for the role, alongside Jack Lowden of “Slow Horses” and Callum Turner of “Masters of the Air.” Lowden recently described the attention as flattering but said he would not add to the speculation.

The next Bond movie will be the 26th in the franchise and the first since Amazon MGM Studios took over creative control from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson in 2025. Denis Villeneuve is set to direct the untitled film, with a screenplay by “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight. Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce, and casting director Nina Gold is leading the search for the next Bond.

Other actors previously linked to the role include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson and James Norton.
