Katey Sagal has joined the recurring cast of Fox’s Best Medicine for its second season. Her episodes are scheduled to air later in the season.

Sagal will play Kathleen Gavin, the estranged mother of Louisa Glasson, portrayed by Abigail Spencer. Kathleen is described as combative, conniving and self-interested. Her unexpected return to the coastal town of Port Wenn after a long absence disrupts Louisa’s life, while Martin Best, played by Josh Charles, learns why the locals call her “Shady Katie.”

Based on the British series Doc Martin, Best Medicine follows Martin Best, a brilliant surgeon who leaves his career in Boston to work as a general practitioner in the East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child. His blunt bedside manner quickly clashes with the town’s residents, including Louisa, a local school teacher.

The series also stars Annie Potts, Josh Segarra and Cree. Best Medicine is owned by Fox Entertainment, produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and distributed by Fox Entertainment Global. Liz Tuccillo serves as showrunner and is among the executive producers.
