Katey Sagal is returning to Fox with a recurring role in the network’s drama ‘Best Medicine.’ The actress will play Kathleen Gavin, the estranged mother of Louisa, portrayed by Abigail Spencer.

Kathleen is described as the only person unwelcome in Port Wenn. Her unexpected return after a long absence disrupts Louisa’s life, while Martin, played by Josh Charles, learns why residents refer to her as “Shady Katie.” The character is portrayed as combative, conniving and primarily concerned with her own interests.

Sagal’s first appearances are scheduled for episodes set to air later this season. The role marks another return to Fox for the actress, who starred in ‘Married … With Children’ and provided a key voice role in ‘Futurama,’ now available on Hulu.

Her recent credits include ‘One Piece,’ ‘The Abandons,’ ‘The Conners’ and ‘Rebel.’ Sagal won a Golden Globe for ‘Sons of Anarchy’ and previously starred in ‘8 Simple Rules’ and ‘Married … With Children.’ She will also appear in the upcoming Apple TV comedy ‘She’s Fine.’

Beyond television, Sagal’s film credits include ‘Trust,’ ‘Bleed for This,’ ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ and ‘The Good Mother.’ She has released the albums ‘Well’ and ‘Room,’ and published the memoir ‘Grace Notes: My Recollections’ in 2017.
