Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who plays dispatcher Cammie Raleigh on 9-1-1: Nashville, previously appeared in The Flash as Renee Adler, a metahuman with magnetic powers. The character debuted in the show’s fifth season and becomes a target of the villain Cicada II because of her abilities.
Renee’s name alludes to Irene Adler, the woman who outwits Sherlock Holmes in Arthur Conan Doyle’s story “A Scandal in Bohemia.” The reference extends to her romance with Harrison Sherloque Wells, played by Tom Cavanagh. Sherloque is a detective from another Earth and serves on Team Flash, making the pair a variation on the Holmes and Adler dynamic.
Williams-Paisley also played four of Sherloque’s ex-wives on The Flash. Each was a doppelganger of Renee: his first, second, fourth and fifth wives.
The actors had worked together before their Arrowverse roles. Williams-Paisley starred as lawyer Claire Darrow alongside Cavanagh’s Miles Strasberg in Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ Darrow & Darrow television movie series. The first three films came out before her 2019 appearance on The Flash. Their final project together, Witness to Murder: A Darrow Mystery, premiered in September 2019, several months after her Arrowverse debut.
