Mark-Paul Gosselaar has shared his disappointment over Peacock’s decision not to renew the Saved by the Bell revival for a third season. “I was upset with NBC for canceling that,” he told Entertainment Weekly, adding that he thought the decision was “premature, especially on Peacock.”

Gosselaar returned as Zack Morris, the character he played in the original Saturday-morning series from 1989 to 1993. He also reprised the role in Saved by the Bell: The College Years, which NBC canceled after one season. The Peacock revival, developed by Tracey Wigfield, premiered in 2020 and ran for two seasons. Gosselaar was a producer on the series and appeared throughout its run.

The actor said he believed the revival helped introduce viewers to the network and bring people to Peacock. The series also featured Elizabeth Berkley Lauren as Jessie Spano and Mario Lopez as A.C. Slater, alongside a new cast that included Haskiri Velazquez, Mitchell Hoog, Josie Totah, Alycia Pascual-Peña, Belmont Cameli and Dexter Darden. Tiffani Thiessen and Lark Voorhies made guest appearances.
