Netflix has ordered “Prep” straight to series, adapting Curtis Sittenfeld’s novel about a scholarship student navigating life at an elite New England boarding school. The story follows Lee Fiora through her high school years at Ault, where she encounters friendship, crushes and class differences as an outsider among her wealthier, self-assured classmates.

Nicole Taylor will write the adaptation and serve as its showrunner and executive producer. Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor will executive produce for Gloria Sanchez Productions, with Sittenfeld also serving as an executive producer.

Taylor said the novel had been a favorite of hers since she first read it 20 years ago, and that she had wanted to adapt it ever since. She praised Sittenfeld’s portrayal of adolescent self-consciousness and the challenges of social mobility, and said she was delighted to bring the story to Netflix.

Sittenfeld welcomed the series, saying she was pleased with Taylor’s scripts and that the adaptation had given her a new perspective on her novel. She also credited Alix Taylor of Gloria Sanchez with helping move the project forward.

Taylor’s recent work includes the Netflix series “One Day,” which starred Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod and aired in 2024. Her other credits include “The Wild Rose,” “Three Girls,” “Dracula” and “The White Queen.”
