Netflix is testing AI Discover, a new tool that recommends titles based on themes selected by users. The feature is initially available to a small group of subscribers as the company experiments with new ways to help viewers find content.
Users can choose prompts such as “something light,” “scare me” or “quick watches” to see recommendations. They can narrow down what they want, request a different set of suggestions, or use a “tune your recommendations” button to keep or skip a title for future recommendations. Netflix says AI generates the themes and selects which ones to show, while the service provides explanations for its suggestions.
The test is starting with select subscribers in the U.S. who watch Netflix in English on supported TVs. The company plans to expand access in the coming weeks. Users who receive the feature will see a “Discover” tab with a red gem icon and a “New” label in the TV app’s top navigation.
AI Discover adds to Netflix’s existing discovery features, which include genre groupings, recommendations based on viewing history, watch lists and thumbs-up or thumbs-down ratings.
