Park Hoon-jung’s “Tristes Tropiques” has secured distribution deals across several international markets ahead of its Nov. 25 theatrical release in South Korea. Well Go USA acquired the film for North America, with Finecut handling sales at AFM.

Swift Distribution has taken French-speaking territories, Alfa Pictures will distribute the film in Spain and Andorra, Blue Swan Entertainment has acquired Italy, and CaiChang International, Inc. will handle Taiwan. The agreements add to previously announced sales covering Germany, Austria and Switzerland; Poland; the Indian subcontinent; Indonesia; and Mongolia.

The story follows a group of young assassins trained by a figure known as Master, who rules over a tropical rainforest. After Master is found dead, the killers begin to suspect one another as they try to work out who was responsible.

The cast includes Lee Sin-young, Park Yu-rim, Kim Myung-min and Park Hae-soo, alongside Taiwanese actors Austin Lin, Chen Yi-Wen and Wang Po-Chieh. Gold Moon Pictures, Park’s company, produced the film, with Studio&New as co-producer. Mindmark Inc. presents it.

Well Go USA has previously released Park’s “The Witch” films and “The Childe” in North America. The company’s president and CEO, Doris Pfardrescher, said the distributor was pleased to continue its relationship with the filmmaker and praised the film’s style, emotion and action.

“Tristes Tropiques” has received the Silver Raven Award in the International Competition at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. In September, Paris’ L’Étrange Festival awarded it the Grand Prix Nouveau Genre Canal+. The film has also been selected to close the London Korean Film Festival.
