Paul W.S. Anderson is set to direct film adaptations of Nether Station and Nether Vortex, the sci-fi horror novels by author Kevin J. Anderson. Jonathan Wakeham, whose credits include Midas Man and To Catch a Killer, will write both screenplays.
The books center on Cammie Skoura, a brilliant, neurodivergent young scientist aboard a deep-space expedition. The mission uncovers ancient ruins and evidence of long-dead alien civilizations, leading toward a disturbing discovery. The story combines space exploration with cosmic horror.
Kevin J. Anderson said Event Horizon, Paul W.S. Anderson’s 1997 film, influenced the writing of Nether Station. The author also said he was pleased with the choice of director. Paul W.S. Anderson described himself as a longtime fan of Kevin’s work and said Cammie’s perspective and the novels’ cosmic horror could make for a compelling film experience.
Paul W.S. Anderson will produce the films with Jeremy Bolt, Weird Tales president John Harlacher and the company’s film vice president, Tony Eldridge. The novels were published three years apart: Nether Vortex was released by Blackstone Publishing’s Weird Tales Presents imprint on October 27, following Nether Station.
Paul W.S. Anderson previously directed six Resident Evil films and returned to cosmic horror with Event Horizon. His latest film is In the Lost Lands, starring Mila Jovovich and Dave Bautista. Kevin J. Anderson has also worked on film and television projects connected to Dune, including serving as co-producer on Dune: Part Two and Dune: Prophecy.
