Pixar Animation Studios has named Jonathan Garson its new president, with the change taking effect Jan. 4, 2027. Jim Morris, who has served as president since 2014, will become president emeritus after 21 years at the studio, including 12 in the role.

Garson will oversee Pixar’s production and operations, including its producers, department heads and post-production teams. He will work alongside Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter. Garson has spent more than 30 years at Disney and joined Pixar in 2010. He most recently served as the studio’s general manager and previously led its marketing and franchise team.

Morris will remain executive producer of Incredibles 3, which is scheduled for theatrical release in June 2028. His responsibilities will also include mentoring and talent development across Pixar and Walt Disney Studios, along with technology initiatives intended to support the studios’ artists and storytellers.

Jonas Rivera will take on an expanded role as creative executive vice president, leading filmmakers and development and working closely with Docter and Garson. Rivera joined Pixar as a production intern in 1994 and has worked on nearly every release since. His credits include producing Up and Toy Story 4 and executive producing Inside Out 2.

Alan Bergman, chairman of Disney Entertainment and Studios, announced the changes. Garson and Morris will report to him. Bergman said the transition would support a smooth succession as Morris prepares to step back from day-to-day work. Morris said Garson was well suited to carry Pixar’s legacy forward, while Garson described the appointment as a humbling opportunity and said he looked forward to working with Pixar’s creative and production teams.
