Lionsgate is partnering with Meta to convert The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping into 3D for its theatrical release and a subsequent presentation on Meta VR Glasses. The collaboration marks the first time Meta has worked with a Hollywood studio to convert a film into 3D, according to the information provided.
The Francis Lawrence-directed prequel is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 20. Its release on Meta VR Glasses is planned for spring 2027, following its theatrical run. Lionsgate said additional feature titles and availability details for the glasses will be announced later.
The 3D conversion was completed in collaboration with DNEG, the Oscar-winning visual effects and animation studio. Meta’s glasses, unveiled at Meta Connect 2026, include a 5K Infinite Display, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos spatial audio and Imax enhanced support. Each pair weighs approximately 100 grams.
The film is expected to open in North America with between $60 million and $70 million, based on the cited projection. The Hunger Games film series has generated more than $3.3 billion worldwide across five features, while Lionsgate has also expanded the franchise through a London stage production and a theme park attraction in Dubai.
