Tristan Thompson is joining “Satoshi,” a feature film about Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. Jason Zada is set to direct, with production planned in Saudi Arabia and Los Angeles in spring 2027.
Thompson, a former NBA champion and tech investor, will produce alongside Enderby Entertainment principals Rick Dugdale and Dan Petrie Jr. Other producers include Brian D. Evans, founder of BDE Ventures, and actors Aaron Arnold and Austin Arnold, according to Enderby Entertainment.
The film is one of the first projects in a multi-picture agreement between Enderby Entertainment and Saudi production company Yellow Camel Studios. Filming is planned at JAX Film Studios in Riyadh, as well as in Los Angeles.
The story will explore Bitcoin’s origins. Its logline follows an FBI agent and a defense attorney who attempt to identify Nakamoto amid government pressure and a high-stakes crypto investigation. The screenplay was written by Zada and Nate Atkins, based on an original script by Cam Cannon.
A representative for the film said artificial intelligence will be used as a production tool, but will not be the main focus of the filmmaking process. The representative described “Satoshi” as a traditional production that will include on-location filming.
Another film about Bitcoin’s creator, Doug Liman’s “Bitcoin,” also known as “Killing Satoshi,” is currently in post-production. Its cast includes Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, Gal Gadot and Isla Fisher.
Dugdale said the filmmakers want to tell the story without sanitizing it, and to involve people familiar with Bitcoin’s code and culture. Evans said the film is not focused on unmasking Nakamoto, but on presenting the story accurately.
