Vikas Bahl has finished filming in the U.K. on “Bolo Bolo Bolo,” a coming-of-age musical drama set during the early 1990s boom in Punjabi music across Britain. Jimmy Shergill, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Mona Singh and Alizeh lead the cast. Katha Studios is producing the film with Good Co, Fusion Flicks and Monk Films, and it is scheduled to open in cinemas in 2027.

The film takes place at a time when young British musicians blended Punjabi beats with modern, bass-heavy production, creating their sound in makeshift spaces that included garages, unlicensed radio broadcasts and shows outside the mainstream circuit. Alongside the music, the story explores family ties, friendship, identity and the search for belonging against the backdrop of a changing British culture.

Shibasish Sarkar, founder of Katha Studios, said the film captures a cultural movement that brought together music, identity and a generation finding its voice. He added that it explores a notable chapter in the evolution of Punjabi music in Britain and that the producers are excited to bring the story to audiences. The soundtrack draws on a wide range of sounds that drove the British Punjabi scene during the decade.

Bahl said the film centers on music, identity and belonging and is set at a time when a generation was forging its own cultural identity. He described the 1990s British Punjabi music scene as full of energy, rebellion and self-expression, and said bringing that world to life was a wonderful experience.
