Watermelon Pictures has set a November 27 U.S. theatrical release for Who Is Still Alive, Switzerland’s entry for the 2027 Academy Awards, and released the North American trailer for Nicolas Wadimoff’s documentary.
The film follows nine former Gaza residents who are now living as refugees across the Middle East and Europe. They describe their former lives, experiences of survival, losses and unfulfilled dreams while standing around a simple representation of Gaza made from white lines on a black floor. The group remains uncertain whether they will be able to return to the Palestinian territory they once called home.
Who Is Still Alive premiered in 2025 in the Giornate degli Autori section, also known as Venice Days, and later screened at international festivals including Locarno, Hot Docs and the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival.
Wadimoff is scheduled to attend U.S. screenings and question-and-answer sessions as the film begins its awards campaign. Watermelon Pictures will open the documentary in New York and Los Angeles on November 27, followed by an expansion into 10 additional key markets on December 4. Further dates may be added.
The distributor’s current 2027 Oscar slate also includes American Doctor, which is being considered in the Best Documentary category.
