Alton Towers will permanently close The World of David Walliams, the attraction based on characters from the author’s books. The Merlin Entertainments-owned theme park said the decision follows its regular review of rides and attractions and comes as the 2026 peak season ends.

The attraction opened in 2021 and included characters such as Gangsta Granny. Merlin did not give a specific reason for the closure. Deadline reported that operational and guest experience factors were understood to have been considered. Walliams’ literary agent at Independent Talent was approached for comment.

The closure comes after publisher HarperCollins dropped Walliams and halted publication of his back catalogue following misconduct allegations. Walliams has denied wrongdoing. Separately, Deadline reported in September that talent agency YMU was no longer actively representing him.
