Goodfellas has unveiled the first images from Leviathan, Toho’s upcoming science-fiction thriller, as the Paris-based company begins international sales ahead of the American Film Market. The film is a live-action adaptation of Shiro Kuroi’s best-selling manga.

Set in 2127, Leviathan follows a group of students stranded in space after a catastrophic accident leaves their spacecraft adrift, with oxygen supplies running low and only one life-support system available. The situation forces them into a brutal fight for survival.

Michihito Fujii and Ryohei Shingu are directing the film. Fujii shares screenplay credits with Izumi Takahashi. The cast is led by Shunsuke Michieda, known for Even If This Love Disappears From The World, and Natsuki Deguchi, who appeared in Look Back.

Leviathan is currently in post-production, and Goodfellas will present a first promotional reel at the AFM. The company is representing the film in all international territories outside Asia. Toho is scheduled to release it in Japan on February 11, 2027.

The film joins a Goodfellas fall lineup that includes The Girl Who Was Plugged In, Jennifer Kent’s science-fiction feature starring Sophie Thatcher in a dual role. The story centers on a disfigured 19-year-old woman recruited by a technology corporation to remotely control a lab-grown body named Delphi.

Other titles on the slate include Mia Hansen-Løve’s If Love Should Die, starring Renate Reinsve as writer Mary Wollstonecraft; Michel Hazanavicius’ The Third Hand, described as a fantastique drama; Michaël R. Roskam’s World War Two resistance film Le Faux Soir; and Kamila Andini’s Four Seasons. Both Le Faux Soir and Four Seasons screened at Toronto.

The lineup also includes Cannes Palme d’Or winner Fjord and Spanish contender La Bola Negra, both of which are sold out. Four Seasons is Indonesia’s entry for the 99th Academy Awards race.
