Harold Greene, a longtime anchor at Los Angeles television news stations, has died at 82. His family announced his passing, and his daughter Courtney said he died on Tuesday with her and his wife by his side.
Greene worked at ABC7 Eyewitness News, KCAL 9 News and CBS 2 News during his career. He also spent time working in San Diego, where his on-air appearance, including his mustache, was said to have inspired elements of Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy character in “Anchorman.”
His honors included 10 Golden Mike awards, two Emmys, three Edward R. Murrow Awards, 12 L.A. Press Club Awards and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism Award.
Courtney wrote that her father had “signed off for the last time” and said the family felt he was already settling into “the great newsroom in the sky.” A memorial is being planned for after the holidays.
