Pixar will change presidents on January 4, 2027, when Jonathan Garson succeeds Jim Morris, who will become president emeritus after 12 years in the role. Morris joined Pixar in 2005 and was the studio’s second president, following Ed Catmull.
Garson will oversee Pixar’s production and operations, including its producers, department heads and post-production teams, while working with Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter. Garson has been with Disney for more than 30 years and Pixar since 2010. He most recently served as Pixar’s general manager and previously led its marketing and franchise team.
Docter will continue to lead Pixar’s creative direction. Jonas Rivera will take on an expanded role as executive vice president of creative, overseeing filmmakers and development in partnership with Docter. Rivera will also work with directors and the studio’s creative, development, casting and content advisement teams. He and Docter will serve as executive producers on each Pixar film.
Morris will remain an executive producer on Incredibles 3, scheduled for release on June 16, 2028. He will also work on special projects, talent development and mentoring, as well as technology initiatives supporting the studio’s storytellers and artists.
Morris said he would be stepping back from day-to-day work after 52 years in the entertainment business, including nearly 40 years at Lucasfilm and Pixar. He described Garson as the right person to carry the studio forward. Garson said he was grateful for the opportunity and looked forward to working with Docter, Rivera and Pixar’s filmmakers and artists.
Disney Entertainment Studios Chairman Alan Bergman said the transition was intended to ensure a smooth succession. Both Morris and Garson will report to Bergman.
Pixar’s announced upcoming films include Gatto, due in theaters on March 5, 2027, and Ghost Market, scheduled for March 10, 2028, followed by Incredibles 3 in June 2028.
