Keeley Hawes has joined the second season of ITV thriller Gone, created by George Kay. She will play Ruth Manning, a prominent paediatric surgeon at Bristol’s Makeway Hospital whose history draws the attention of DS Annie Cassidy, played by Eve Myles.
As Cassidy investigates a series of historical crimes, it becomes apparent that Manning may be concealing a dark truth in the interests of her patients, according to the series’ premise.
The Bristol-set drama’s first season starred David Morrissey as Michael Polly, a local headmaster who became the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance. ITV said the first run, led by Myles, eclipsed all streaming records on its platform ITVX.
Gone is produced by Kay’s Observatory Pictures with New Pictures, in association with Banijay Rights, which handles sales. The series is partly inspired by the book To Hunt a Killer and the real-life work of former Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay and ITV Crime Correspondent Robert Murphy, both of whom serve as production consultants.
