Netflix’s recent restructuring has reached its U.K. operations, with between 2% and 3% of the workforce at its London headquarters affected by layoffs. Some roles in the publicity department were among those eliminated, while the company is understood to have cut around 1,000 jobs worldwide.
The reorganization has also led to the departure of Anna Mallett, who served as Netflix’s vice president of physical production for the U.K. and local-language production across EMEA, Latin America and Asia Pacific. She joined Netflix in 2020 after serving as CEO of news producer ITN and previously held senior positions at BBC Studios.
At Netflix, Mallett oversaw production management for live-action series, non-fiction programs and films. Her tenure included the launch of several successful U.K. productions, including “Baby Reindeer” and “Adolescence.” Her exit was first reported by The Ankler.
The changes follow Netflix’s decision to replace content chief Bela Bajaria with Peter Rice, a former Disney and Fox executive. The move has raised questions about whether further changes could affect the company’s international operations.
Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters has said the company’s international strategy remains unchanged for now. During the streamer’s most recent earnings call, he pointed to strong results in Asia Pacific, Latin America and EMEA, saying local productions from those regions are supporting engagement and business growth.
