Nicolas Cage says he has been staying in hotels since a sinkhole near his Malibu home led to an evacuation in September. The actor shared the update during a panel at Los Angeles Comic Con on Halloween.

“I’m currently a little bit homeless,” Cage said. “Something happened to my house in Malibu, so I’m just sort of living in hotels.”

The sinkhole opened near the driveway of Cage’s home on Sept. 8. It measured 25 feet deep and 30 by 60 feet across, prompting the evacuation of 31 nearby homes, including the one belonging to Cage and his family. Officials have not determined what caused it. The original report said unusually strong Hurricane Marie, which brought large waves and flooding to parts of Southern California in early September, was a possible factor.

Cage also described his Halloween plans while away from home. He said he would take his daughter trick-or-treating in Santa Monica, then watch “The Shining” after putting her to bed.

Cage is set to appear in Season 5 of HBO’s “True Detective” alongside Antonio Banderas. He is also starring as football coach John Madden in Amazon MGM’s “Madden,” scheduled for Nov. 11.
