Scarlett Johansson says finding her way into her role in The Batman: Part II was unusually challenging, despite her experience with superhero films. The character has not been revealed, and Johansson said the process pushed her outside her comfort zone.

“It was very hard to figure out,” Johansson told Entertainment Tonight in an interview about her upcoming film Paper Tiger. She said she was unsure whether the difficulty came from the role itself or where she was in her life, adding that it had caused “a Lot of existential angst, for some reason.”

Director Matt Reeves confirmed Johansson’s casting in May in a post on X, but did not disclose her character. Sebastian Stan and Brian Tyree Henry have also been announced for undisclosed roles.

Reeves, who directed 2022’s The Batman, has said the sequel will focus more on Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne. He previously described wanting to keep Pattinson at the center of the story as it moves beyond Batman’s origins and into the character’s broader arc.
