Thomasin McKenzie, Finn Cole and Antony Starr will lead “The Lie of Sherwood Forest,” a new take on the Robin Hood legend from German production company augenschein. The film is due to begin production on Nov. 9 and will launch at the upcoming American Film Market, with Logical Pictures International and Protagonist Pictures handling sales.

Patrick Vollrath, whose credits include “7500” and “Subversion,” is directing. The cast also includes Smylie Bradwell, Brian Vernel and Richard Durden. Harris Kauffman wrote the screenplay, based on a story by Joachim Hedén and Vollrath.

The film follows Robin Hood and his companions after a young woman deceives them into trying to rescue her captured brother. The mission turns into a dangerous heist, with the outlaws facing fractured loyalties and concealed motives as they challenge those in power. The filmmakers describe the project as a grounded survival story focused on loyalty and justice.

Maximilian Leo, Jonas Katzenstein and Daniel Sonnabend are producing for augenschein, with ZDF co-producing. The project also has funding support from Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, the German Federal Film Fund, the German Federal Film Board, German Films, the European Investment Fund and Creative Europe Media.

Augenschein and Logical Pictures Group will finance the film. Logical Pictures International will co-represent sales with Protagonist Pictures.
