Gillian Anderson and Rebecca Hall will star in The Portrait, a psychological thriller written and directed by Sara Colangelo. Anderson will play Valeria, an internationally acclaimed writer, while Hall will portray Isla, the wife of Valeria’s longtime secret lover, Martín.

The story follows Valeria after Martín becomes inaccessible due to a sudden illness. Hoping to remain close to him during his final days, she commissions Isla to paint her portrait, entering the businessman’s home and family life under this pretext. The arrangement brings the two women into conflict inside the family’s London townhouse.

The film is based on a novel by Ilaria Bernardini. Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman Keren of Pie Films will produce alongside Francesca Cualbu of the Italian production company The Apartment.

WME will represent domestic rights at the upcoming American Film Market, while Rocket Science will handle international sales. Production is slated to begin in the UK in the first quarter of 2027.

Colangelo said the project continues her interest in moral ambiguity and female transgression. She previously directed The Kindergarten Teacher and Worth.
