Mexican actor Manuel García-Rulfo will receive the GuadaLAjara Film Festival’s honorary Árbol de la Vida Award, with the presentation scheduled for the festival’s Opening Night Gala on November 5 at the United Theater in Los Angeles.

Born in Guadalajara, García-Rulfo gained recognition for performances in The Magnificent Seven and Cake. His subsequent credits include A Man Called Otto, opposite Tom Hanks, Jurassic World Rebirth and Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer series. He has also appeared in Bless Me, Ultima, Murder on the Orient Express, Widows, 6 Underground and Pedro Páramo.

The Árbol de la Vida Award is among the festival’s honorary distinctions and recognizes individuals whose work has had a lasting influence on film, entertainment and culture. Named after the traditional Mexican Tree of Life, the award has previously gone to Yalitza Aparicio, Xolo Maridueña and Nava Mau.

Festival Director Ximena Urrutia said the honor recognizes artists who connect cultures and generations. She described García-Rulfo as an actor who has brought depth, authenticity and humanity to his roles, from Guadalajara to the international stage.

The GuadaLAjara Film Festival’s sixteenth-anniversary edition will run from November 5 to 7.
