DC Studios has hired Francis Galluppi to write a movie about John Constantine, according to sources cited by Deadline. The project is in very early development, and no other talent is attached at this stage, the report says. DC representatives declined to comment.
Constantine, also known as Hellblazer, first appeared in The Saga of the Swamp Thing #37 in 1985. Created by writer Alan Moore and artists Steve Bissette and John Totleben, he is a working-class British detective with knowledge of magic and the occult.
Keanu Reeves portrayed the character in the 2005 film Constantine, directed by Francis Lawrence, while Matt Ryan led a television series that began airing on NBC in 2014 and ran for one season.
Galluppi is also directing Evil Dead Wrath, the seventh film in the horror franchise. Warner Bros. is scheduled to release it on April 7, 2028. His feature debut was the crime thriller The Last Stop in Yuma County.
