Eric Dane’s posthumously released memoir recounts an on-set altercation with Josh Duhamel during the filming of NBC’s “Las Vegas.” Dane was a guest star on the series, which Duhamel headlined with James Caan, and says he was dealing with a herniated disc in his neck when they filmed a fight scene in the show’s second season.

Dane writes that he asked Duhamel not to pull his tie during the scene, and that Duhamel agreed. But after the director called action, Duhamel grabbed it, causing pain in Dane’s neck. Dane says Duhamel apologized, but did the same thing on the next take. After a third incident, Dane removed his jacket, challenged Duhamel and moved toward him with his fists clenched. The camera continued rolling, and Dane says the footage made him appear to be the one who started the fight.

Dane later reflects that the confrontation was not a proud moment. He writes that he and Duhamel have seen each other since and are on good terms, and apologizes for not walking away.

Dane appeared in two episodes of “Las Vegas” in 2004. He later became widely known for playing Dr. Mark Sloan on “Grey’s Anatomy.” Duhamel has previously described how he would immerse himself in difficult emotional states for roles, including Danny McCoy on “Las Vegas,” a former Marine dealing with PTSD.

“My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments” is now available.
